Action, Inc. of Cape Ann hosted its 41st
Annual Meeting on Wednesday evening, June 14, 2006,
at the Rockport Country Club. Essex District
Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett was the evening’s
featured speaker.
Since 1965, Action, Inc. has been dedicated to
improving the lives of residents of Essex,
Gloucester, Ipswich, Manchester, and Rockport.
This year’s dinner and awards ceremony was dedicated
to the memory of Scott Thorndike, known to Cape Ann
citizens for his efforts on behalf of Project
Uplift, Action’s annual holiday toy and clothing
drive for children.
Action’s annual meeting celebrates and acknowledges
individuals who have offered outstanding support for
the organization’s community service programs.
Awardees for 2006 included:
Charles Foster -- recipient of the Rev. Forrest
Clark Award for his service to Action and the
Community over the past 20 years;
Rev. Karin Wade, an Action Board member -- in
appreciation for her dedication to the Homeless
Programs;
Scott Thorndike -- for his tireless work with Elder
Volunteer Services, and his coordination of Project
Uplift;
Richard Gaines, Times reporter – in appreciation for
his stories and articles that so aptly describe
Action’s mission and services to the community;
Roger Lesch, Action
Board member -- in appreciation for his efforts
above and beyond expectations, in organizing and
planning activities such as the Annual Meeting and
Project Uplift in Rockport; and
U.S. Representative John F. Tierney -– the recipient
of a Public Service Award for his leadership in the
US House of Representative and his support of
programs that assist low-income families.
